IKARUS
The design of Ikarus - a pendant light - combines the physical topics light and balance. It is inspired by an heroic animal, such as an eagle with its aesthetic move to spread its wings. The interaction between pure forms and asymmetric volume triggers a dynamic and deeply emotional tension. It is possible to move the single "fingers" to an individual arrangement. With this possibility you can create your own light atmosphere and a countless number of scenarios.
My intention was to create not only a lamp. Due to the fact that Ikarus owns a filigree way of ceiling, it seems to hover in a room, so it seems surreal. The handcrafted model is an 1:1 scale - every single part of this lamp is made by hand.
Its round about 1.30m in the length and 20 cm width. It weights approximately 3 to 4 kg. The most important fact is, it is working with over 450 LEDs. Ikarus gives a remarkably bright, white light with 3000-3200 Kelvin and an astonishing stream of light.
